Stuttering Therapy

Stuttering, or dysfluency is a disruption in the flow of speech which results in the repetition of parts of words and whole words, elongation of sounds, undesired, sometimes lengthy pauses and tension in the muscles involved in speech production. Stuttering usually begins during childhood and can be categorized as developmental or neurological. Those with neurological stuttering may also develop concomitant physical behaviors as they grow older. These include head jerks, blinking and hand tapping. Stuttering can cause anxiety, reduced self-confidence and limitations to a person's personal and professionalĀ development.
We offer supportive individualized speech therapy for stuttering that incorporates both fluency shaping and stuttering modification strategies for coping with the challenges of stuttering.
