  • Focused on core social communication competencies

  • Special events to encourage carryover of skills

  • Opportunities for family involvement

  • Small group size: maximum of 6 per class

Our social skills program is oriented toward children on the autism spectrum, or similar diagnoses, who need to develop social communication skills for daily life. The purpose of this group is to provide explicit social communication skills training and provide small group practice opportunities. Two levels of this group will be offered.

Topics to be included in the 45-minute core weekly group include, turn taking in conversation, understanding of personal social boundaries, how to start and end a conversation, how to avoid dominating a conversation, how to engage in the interests of others and additional topics as appropriate.

In addition to the weekly communication skills group, our program includes several special events to involve the family and provide opportunities for the children to use their skills in a structured, supportive environment; These are:

Sibling Sunday - 1-hour art class for program participants and up to two siblings (or friends)

Drop-off Art Class - 1-hour art class for program participants; for them to experience a typical drop-off style class, where they can apply their skill in an unfamiliar environment.

Family Party - the last class of the semester will be a combined level family party event that will challenge the participants to apply their skills in a lass structured activity.
